Mıhlama

Mıhlama, Turkey’s famous cheesy cornmeal dish originating from the Black Sea region, is a rich and gooey comfort food. Made with simple ingredients like cornmeal, butter, water, and the unique Trabzon cheese, this warm, stretchy, and buttery dish is perfect for breakfast or a cozy snack any time of the day.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup Trabzon cheese (shredded)

Instructions

  1. Transfer butter to a shallow pan and melt over low heat until bubbling.

  2. Gradually add the cornmeal, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon to toast it lightly.

  3. When the cornmeal changes color, slowly pour in the water.

  4. Once the mixture boils and the cornmeal swells, add the shredded Trabzon cheese and stir well.

  5. Cook the mıhlama on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the cheese melts and the mixture becomes gooey.

  6. When the butter rises to the top and gets slightly browned, remove from heat.

  7. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy with family and friends.

Mıhlama is a deliciously simple dish that brings together the rich flavors of butter, cornmeal, and the unique Trabzon cheese. Its creamy texture and comforting warmth make it a beloved Turkish classic.
